Spicy Mustard Broccoli Pizza

Tangy to the max with just enough heat and the fresh bitter pop of some tiny diced onions. This spicy mustard broccoli pizza is an interesting combo. A homemade spicy mustard made with yellow mustard, Worcestershire and Tabasco sauce. But just a little warning, a bit of this sauce can go a long way so don’t over due it unless you’re obsessed with mustard, then you do you.

A spicy mustard broccoli pizza isn’t and won’t be the weirdest thing we make but it’s pretty darn weird. Who would’ve thought broccoli and mustard would work together. Somethings I guess you gotta try before you deny. And why not give it a shot, a vegetarian pizza option that is full of flavour, will you dare try it?

Ingredients

TOPPINGS

  • 1 head Broccoli (2 cups)
  • ½ cup Onion
  • ½ cup Yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Tabasco sauce
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Cooking oil
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Black pepper
  • 1 tbsp Water (for steaming)

SOURDOUGH PIZZA DOUGH

  • 2 cups Sourdough starter
  • 1 cup Bread flour
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

SOURDOUGH PIZZA DOUGH (1 hour)

  • Make your dough by mixing the sourdough starter, salt and bread flour together (adding a bit of flour at a time until it takes shape)
  • Knead the dough for 30 seconds, flour lightly as needed or add a little water if it's too dry.
  • Place the dough in a lightly floured bowl and cover with a towel, set aside for 1 hour (the pizza steel or stone needs to preheat for 1 hour as well, so preheat oven to 550°F after you finish making your pizza dough)

PIZZA

  • Preheat oven to 550°F with baking steel or pizza stone inside the oven for 1 hour.
  • Dice onion and chop broccoli into bite size pieces removing most of the stem.
  • Add broccoli and water to steamer and steam for 2-3 minutes, carefully remove excess water and add oil, salt and pepper.
  • Mix yellow mustard, tabasco and Worcestershire.
  • Grate mozzarella cheese.
  • Flour surface and roll out the dough, flour lightly as needed. Put a floured pizza peel underneath the dough.
  • Add spicy mustard sauce, then mozzarella cheese, then broccoli and onions. Pat down toppings.
  • Bake pizza in the oven at 550° F. for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove pizza from oven with pizza peel and let cool for 5 minutes. Slice it up!

Doesn’t seem like we should have done it… but we did. Carbs on carbs on carbs, somehow this grilled cheese pizza recipe was still really awesome. Ooey gooey cheddar cheese from the itty bitty grilled cheese strategically placed around the pizza on a bed of ketchup, of course. And if you haven’t tried a sourdough grilled cheese, get on it! What are you waiting for, finish reading this, then watch the video… then… go and make a sourdough grilled cheese.

But that’s not it my friends, we added some mozzarella cheese just for good measure. Not only underneath the tasty little grilled cheese minis, but we loaded some on top too, because why the heck not. What’s great with grilled cheese and ketchup, well more cheese, obviously.

  • 4 slices Cheddar cheese

  • ¼ cup Butter softened

WILD PIZZA DOUGH

  • 2 cups Sourdough starter
  • 1 cup Bread flour
  • 1 tsp Salt

Instructions

WILD PIZZA DOUGH (1 hour)

  • Make your dough by mixing the sourdough starter, salt, and bread flour (adding a bit of flour at a time until it takes shape but is still a little sticky).
  • Knead the dough for 30 seconds, flour lightly as needed.
  • Place the wild dough in a lightly floured bowl and cover with a towel, set aside for 1 hour. (The pizza steel or stone needs to preheat for 1 hour as well, so preheat oven to 550°F after you finish making your pizza dough).

PIZZA

  • Preheat oven to 550°F with baking steel or pizza stone inside the oven for 1 hour.
  • Remove crust from 4 slices of sourdough bread and roll bread with rolling pin. Cut 4 slices of cheddar cheese. Add 1 tbsp. butter to outside of bread slices. Build cheese sandwich and cut into 12 little squares. Repeat with second sandwich.
  • Grate mozzarella cheese.
  • Flour surface and roll out the dough. Put a floured pizza peel underneath the dough.
  • Add ketchup to pizza, then 1 cup mozzarella cheese, then 24 mini grilled cheese squares, finally add 1 more cup of mozzarella cheese. Pat down.
  • Bake pizza at 550°F for 8-10 minutes, by sliding pizza onto baking steel with pizza peel.
  • Remove pizza from oven with pizza peel. Let cool for 5 minutes, slice and enjoy!

Hummus Pizza Recipe

This Hummus Pizza starts out with a freshly made hummus base, topped with mozzarella cheese, sliced black olives and halved grape tomatoes. The hummus among us worked better than expected, if you are a fan of hummus this pizza is one you’ll wanna try. This may just be the beginning of a beautiful thing, how many other hummus pizzas can we come up with?

The flavours are fresh and comforting but if you gotta problem with olives this may not be your bag. But we won’t judge you if you need to pick em off, or if you’re a planner you can just not put them on to begin with. Unless you want to satisfy an olive lover, then you’re back to square one.

  • 1 cup Grape Tomatoes halved
  • ½ cup Black Olives sliced

WILD PIZZA DOUGH

  • 2 cups Sourdough Starter active
  • 1 cup Bread Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt

Hummus*

  • 1 can Chickpeas 500ml
  • ¼ cup Tahini
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Lemon
  • 1 clove Garlic
  • ½ tsp Cumin
  • ½ tsp Salt
  • ¼ tsp Pepper
  • ¼ tsp Paprika

Instructions

WILD PIZZA DOUGH (1 hour)

  • Make your dough by mixing the sourdough starter, bread flour* and salt together
    *adding a bit of flour at a time until it takes shape but is still a little sticky. Knead the dough for 30 seconds.
  • Place the wild dough in a lightly floured bowl and cover with a towel, set aside for 1 hour. (The pizza steel or stone needs to preheat for 1 hour as well, so preheat oven to 550 degrees F° after you finish making your pizza dough)

HUMMUS*

  • Add tahini and lemon juice to food processor and process for 1 minute. Add olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, salt and pepper. Process 30 seconds.
  • Open can of chickpeas, drain and rinse. Add half to food processor, process 2 minutes. Add remaining chickpeas and process 2 more minutes.

PIZZA

  • Preheat oven to 550 degrees F° with baking steel or pizza stone inside the oven for 1 hour.
  • Grate mozzarella cheese.
  • Flour surface and roll out the dough, flour lightly as needed. Put a floured pizza peel underneath the dough. Spread hummus on pizza dough. Add mozzarella cheese, then tomatoes and olives. Pat down toppings.
  • Bake pizza in the oven at 550 degrees F° for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove pizza from oven with pizza peel and let cool for 5+ minutes.
