Babybel bonanza! This pizza challenge was a doozy but our Babybel Pizza actually worked out. Warm Babybels eh? As familiar as they seem we usually eat em’ cold right out the fridge, maybe with a pickle. But you know us, we can’t help ourselves. We just gotta shake things up!

Question for you, can you tell us what cheese Babybel is without googling it? If you’re like us we googled it, and it’s….Edam?! What?! Who put that on our pizza, oh wait, that was us. And we would do it again. Just try and stop us, or cave in and try making a Babybel pizza yourself, warm little Babybels, yum!

Shrimp and Grits Pizza Recipe

Shrimp and Grits Pizza

Shrimp and Grits Pizza

First and foremost to all the traditionalist out there, it’s really hard to find grits. And this Shrimp and Grits Pizza recipe is proof. We’ve seen a lot of people substitute cornmeal for grits, although it’s not exactly the same. But ya know what, its still super good it’s just a slight difference in the texture, but if ya cook it right you’re in a good place.

When you add butter, cheese, bacon and shrimps, you’ve just made anyone who gets some a happier person. Grits or cornmeal will both work in this recipe so don’t worry about it if ya can’t stay traditional with it. We are the furthest thing from traditional anyways, so the glass slipper fits and cornmeal can still makes some excellent grits. Cheesy, bacony and shrimpy grits!

One of the absolute most classic bagels ever, maybe the most memorable and definitely worth trying on a pizza. This Lox Bagel Pizza recipe is incredibly simple and incredibly tasty. If the bagel shop is closed and you need to hit that lox bagel craving this is the way to do it!

Topped with red onions and capers, with delicious smoked salmon lox all resting on the original cream cheese with an added touch of melted mozzarella. Daring enough to toss some fish on a pizza and glad we did! Because this risk was worth taking. Here fishy fishy!

Cobb Salad Pizza

Cobb Salad Pizza

Cobb Salad Pizza Recipe

Cobb you believe it?! This one is a little weird even for us but this Cobb Salad pizza recipe was a real delight. Packed with depths of savory flavour from the bacon, chicken and blue cheese, with the added freshness of lettuce, tomato, avocado, chives and an unusual pizza addition of hard boiled eggs. Which I assure you the hard boiled egg totally rocks on this pizza, and what Cobb salad would be complete without it. And that zing from the red wine dressing ties this stupendous salad pizza together.

Could this be the best salad to put on a pizza? We would say yes. Could there be a better salad to put on a pizza? Honestly we have no idea, this was a bit of a stretch as it is. It’s the hard boiled eggs, we know it, you know it, but once again these eggs were done right and we would take a slice of this any night!

WILD PIZZA DOUGH

FRIES*

  • 3 large Potatoes
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • ½ tsp Pepper

GRAVY*

  • ½ cup Beef broth
  • ½ cup Chicken broth
  • 2 tbsp Butter
  • 2 tbsp Flour
  • ½ tsp Pepper

Instructions

WILD PIZZA DOUGH (1 hour)

  • Make your dough by mixing the sourdough starter, bread flour (adding a bit of flour at a time until it takes shape but is still a little sticky) and salt together. Knead the dough for 30 seconds, flour lightly as needed.
  • Place the wild dough in a lightly floured bowl and cover with a towel, set aside for 1 hour. (The pizza steel or stone needs to preheat for 1 hour as well, so preheat oven to 550°F after you finish making your pizza dough).

BACON*

  • Bake bacon in oven on parchment paper lined baking pan at 420°F for 15 minutes, then flip. Cook bacon an additional 5-10 minutes, or until cooked (make sure not to overcook it because it will be cooking in the oven for an additional 10 minutes on the pizza)
  • Remove bacon and drain on paper towel lined plate. Let cool, then chop into bite sized pieces, reserve 1 cup.

FRIES*

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Peel, rinse and slice potatoes into medium cut fries. Soak potatoes in a large bowl with cold water for 30 minutes, then strain, rinse and dry.
  • Place potatoes onto a parchment paper lined baking pan. Add oil, salt and pepper and mix well. Bake for 1 hour @ 400°F turning the fries once, halfway through. Remove from oven and reserve 2 cups of fries.

GRAVY*

  • On medium heat melt butter in large saucepan, careful not to burn. Add flour and whisk furiously for 30 seconds, still being careful not to burn. Add beef, chicken broth and pepper and whisk until smooth, cook until desired consistency. Remove from heat, let cool slightly and reserve 2 x ¾ cup of gravy.

PIZZA

  • Preheat oven to 550°F with baking steel or pizza stone inside the oven for 1 hour. (Since the oven is preheated from cooking the fries, just preheat until oven is 550°F)
  • Grate mozzarella cheese.
  • Flour surface and roll out the dough, flour lightly as needed. Put a floured pizza peel underneath the dough.
  • Add 1 x ¾ cup gravy, then mozzarella cheese, then fries, bacon and cheese curds. Pat down toppings.
  • Bake pizza in the oven at 550° F. for 8-10 minutes.
  • Remove pizza from oven with pizza peel and let cool for 5 minutes. Top with remaining 1 x ¾ cup gravy. Slice it up!
